The children drew about the nurses of their dreams. The results for the “nurses in children’s drawings” themed contest, which was co-organized by the academicians of Izmir University of Economics- Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, and Izmir Provincial Directorate of Health, have been announced. Total of 108 children, including children aged between 4-10 who are hospitalized at Tepecik Education Research Hospital and kindergartens in Gürçeşme, Balçova, and Gaziemir that are affiliated to Izelman, participated in the contest. All the contestants were presented a pastel set at the contest that was Filli Boya.
Pre-assessment of the competing drawings was made by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sibel Sönmez, lecturer from Ege University, Faculty of Education, Department of Elementary Education, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Dizar Ercivan Zencirci, from Department of Fine Arts. A jury including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Filiz Öğce from IUE Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, Süheyla Nergiz, Head of Izmir Branch of Turkish Association of Nurses, Ayşe Gül, Chief Nurse of Tepecik Education and Research Hospital, Ayşe Tatari, Member of the Executive Board of IKSEV, and Ayşegül Kurtel from K2 Contemporary Art Centre, selected the best drawings.
Aygün Şener came in first place, and Kaya Güner, a child hospitalized at Tepecik Education Research Hospital, came in second place, and Ada Muslu came in third place in 4-6 age category. In 7 -10 age category, Simay Topaloğlu came in first place, Nehir Çağlar came in second place, and Minire Üşgelen, hospitalized at Tepecik Education Research Hospital, came in third place.
Prof. Dr. Çağ Çal, IUE Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences, gave information about the contest and said that the contest focused on the two important links of the society, nurses and children. He said, “Tepecik Education and Research Hospital, Izelman Kindergardens, and Filliboya, all supported us. We had a chance to look at more than 100 unique drawings. Of course, some of them shone through. Seeing the children full of hope, gives us hope about the future.”
