On May 12, we celebrated the power and future of nursing together! This year, we were honored to host the International Nurses’ Day event, organized in collaboration with the Izmir Branch of the Turkish Nurses’ Association and the Department of Nursing at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Izmir University of Economics.

A study conducted by Asst. Prof. Ebru Dığrak in our Department of Nursing, was awarded second place in the “Research Category” at AORN Expo 2026, organized by AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses), one of the world’s most prestigious organizations in the field of nursing. We congratulate her and wish her continued success.

On October 15, World Handwashing Day, an awareness event was organized in collaboration between the Nursing Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and Izmir Private Turkish College. The event was held under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Ebru Dığrak, a faculty member of the Department of Nursing. As part of the program, Yaren Sert, a senior nursing student, educated approximately 450 elementary school students on the importance of handwashing and proper handwashing techniques. 

Faculty members and students of the Faculty of Health Sciences gathered at a faculty breakfast organized before the start of the new academic year. The event, held to kick off the busy semester with high spirits and motivation, allowed participants to enjoy pleasant conversations and activities together.

Within the scope of nursing week activities on May 22, 2025, a team consisting of senior students and faculty members from the Department of Nursing at Izmir University of Economics achieved a joyful success at the Bowling Tournament organized by the Izmir Branch of the Turkish Nurses Association.

IUE FHS Department of Nursing academicians participated in the event held in Cumhuriyet Square before noon on May 12, 2025 within the scope of the activities organized every year during the May 12-18 Nursing Week. After the opening speeches and the National Anthem, a wreath was presented. In the afternoon, faculty members and students of our department participated in the program hosted by Izmir Bakırçay University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing.

The 1st International Izmir University of Economics Health Sciences Congress, hosted by the Faculty of Health Sciences, took place on April 25–26, 2025 at Izmir University of Economics. The congress brought together academics and experts from various disciplines to exchange knowledge and share the latest scientific developments in the field of health sciences.

Res. Assist. Selcan Zeynep Ergöz Aksoy from our faculty members of the Department of Nursing has been selected as this year's winner of the Early Career Research Grant 2024 awarded by the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS), to which she applied with her doctoral thesis project. We congratulate her and wish her continued success.

World Pressure Injury Prevention Day on November 21st, IEU Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing and IEU Medical Point Hospital organized an event in cooperation with Lec. Dr. Adile Savsar and Lec. Dr. Emine Sezgünsay gave a training seminar on “Risk Assessment in the Prevention of Pressure Sores”.

Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Health Sciences 2024-2025 Academic Year Opening Lecture titled "From Mythology to Terminology" was held with the contributions of Assist. Prof. Dr. Dilek Çakır Umar. The opening lecture was attended by students from Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nursing and Nutrition and Dietetics departments as well as interested participants. At the end of the lecture, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Filiz Öğce Aktaş presented a certificate of appreciation to Assist. Prof. Dr. Dilek Çakır Umar for her contributions.
